Anya Thompson is an artist based in Leeds and West Cumbria.
In her recent work, Anya explores the idea that the distinctions between individual objects or beings are a matter of perception as opposed to an objective truth. Each is composed of atoms that predate their current forms by billions of years and will return to their respective cycles after they die, erode, or otherwise break down.
The materials in her work undergo a similar metamorphosis. She makes her own charcoal, paint, and recycled paper for her drawings and paintings which depict repeating patterns found throughout nature across different scales, allowing the microscopic and macroscopic to be viewed with equal significance. This approach emphasizes that all things, regardless of size, are part of the same interconnected system, inviting an appreciation for the environment and its cycles.
