Ellie is an artist primarily working with textiles, She is currently studying a BA in Fine Art with Contemporary Cultural Theory at the University of Leeds. She took a year abroad in her third year to study Fine Art and German at the University of Leipzig in Germany.
“My work is first enacted via personal writings, and poetry before being reinterpreted into painting. It is from these casual and loose paintings and sketches that I begin to translate my concepts from paper into fabric. I chose to primarily work with textiles as find it to be an extremely tactile medium, that can be both viewed and interacted with through touch.
“My artistic process is cathartic and that allows me to express my thoughts and feelings visually, in a way that words alone can’t convey. I have always turned to visual arts to communicate what I can’t articulate through speech. I find words helpful as a tool to support my work but lack the confidence in using them as my sole means of expression, as a result the themes of my work are often very personal and confessional.”
