Florence Bigglestone is an artist based in Leeds and North Wales.
Her sculptural practice revolves around waste, the discarded, rejected and forgotten.
Through a meticulous process of finding, collecting, and sorting, Florence builds sculptures that provide lost objects with a renewed sense of value and purpose. Working with wire, a needle and thread, Florence carefully hand-builds these artworks. She creates time and space to handle and appreciate these objects and materials that have been deemed worthless.
The artwork operates in a way that subverts the irrelevance and uselessness of these rejected materials. Concerned with the unsettling context of the waste-crisis, Bigglestone’s practice inspires hope by highlighting the hidden potential in the rubbish that we discard.
