“My artistic practice sits within the conceptual art movement, exploring the key themes of play, touch and personal comfort. My sculptures are the product of my external excitement for textures and colours.”
Lola Pugh-Cordero creates soft sculptures that explore play as a human experience that enhances the everyday, reintroducing the playful attitudes so often disregarded in adulthood. Her practice is grounded in theories of toyification, where her sculptures deliberately imitate childhood toys to increase visual appeal and encourage physical intimacy.
To connect audiences to their personal experiences of play, she combines form, texture and colour to stimulate imagination and transform abstract shapes into something unique to each viewer. At the same time, by introducing soft texture’s and whimsical colour’s she hopes to trigger curiosity and a desire for tactile engagement.
