As a sculptor, I attempt to encapsulate the essence of poetry within ceramics through forms of absence. Drawing from my own writerly practice, I often mimic scribed or un-scribed paper pages in clay and porcelain.
Considering the act of commemorating or concealing words within or upon my sculptures, I intend to show the fragile and open nature of displaying words to an audience and bring attention to the act of writing itself over the outcome. Often muting my words by translating them into a unique language of my own making. I let my clay or porcelain figures sit as intelligible placeholders, purely symbolic of the concealing act.
